So here it is again. A new year, new challenges, and a lot of exciting endeavors ahead of us. I’m really looking forward to 2019 and I believe it will be a breaking year for Oscar Senior. I’d like to take this moment to tell you more about the great accomplishments we have reached in the past year.
Exhibiting at CES 2018
We started 2018 big – by exhibiting at the largest consumer electronics show. For the second year in a row, we had the wonderful opportunity to showcase Oscar Senior at CES. This time our goal was to find and connect to mainly those partners who are occupied in the care business sector. It was truly an extraordinary experience. We were happy to get a lot of useful and inspiring feedback, and we better understood how care businesses could use Oscar Senior for their clients and caregivers.
In the summer of 2017, we were lucky enough to be selected for the Google for Startups Program (formerly known as the Google Campus Warsaw Residency Program). This 6-month program at Google was established in order to support prospective startups from all around the CEE region. During this intensive program, we were mentored by Google experts, granted access to the Google network, and had the chance to attend a lot of exciting workshops and networking events. All in all, it was an invigorating experience. We learned to keep focus, to do testing, and be ready to change things quickly. We adapted the OKRs system from Google and as a result, managed to increase sales by 250% from month to month.
Pilot projects and a step towards B2B
When I first came up with the idea of Oscar Senior, I saw it as a solution for connecting families living far away from their elderly loved ones. This expectation proved to be true for many families around the globe, since now we have users in more than 80 countries.
The past year we’ve expanded our business. We started collaborating with companies who either work directly with seniors, or businesses that have a large customer base formed by seniors, and are looking for an extra service to offer. As a result, we have launched pilot projects in 3 continents. Due to an increasing number of inquiries from B2B partners, as well as from preliminary results of the pilot projects, we have decided that the B2B segment will be our primary focus.
Oscar Senior took part in the Warsaw-London Bridge event. We are excited to be the winners of the event’s pitch competition as the company with the biggest potential in the UK care market. Thanks to this achievement, we’ve been given the incredible opportunity of a week-long stay in a startup accelerator in London.
All these business achievements are awesome, but nothing would have happened without the team. I feel extremely lucky to have such a great team around me. 2018 meant growth and stabilization mainly of the development team. Also, we started a sales team in the US, so we became even more international, having team members from 5 different countries!
Looking back at all of these milestones, (and these are just the biggest highlights) I am quite certain that this upwards trend will continue this year with an even higher rate of success. I can see that care businesses are more and more focused on delivering high-quality, above average service and are very much interested in introducing technology to their elderly clients. I am strongly convinced that Oscar Senior will help many seniors worldwide, to age well, and to stay more connected to their loved ones and caregivers.
